This year, the matric pass rate improved slightly, with a total of 75.1% of students passing the National Senior Certificate exams. This is up from 72.5% in 2020.

The province with the highest pass rate this year is Gauteng, with 80.2% of students passing, followed by the Western Cape (79.1%) and the Eastern Cape (74.4%). These are the only three provinces with a pass rate above 70%.
Limpopo has the lowest pass rate of 64.5%, followed by the Northern Cape (68.4%) and the Free State (69.8%).
Overall, the results show a slight improvement from last year, but there is still a long way to go in terms of equality among genders and between provinces.
